Hi,

I surely like the idea of the component, though it seems to have some shortcomings given my needs... I wondered whether they are indeed not there or whether I'm missing something.

I can't seem to find:

- a way of allowing users to upload files rather than text fields in the abstract submission form. In other words, is there a way to allow users uploading pdf's, or even images/audio...

- I can't assign users to uploaded abstracts, neither front-end or back-end

- I can't set the review process: how do I determine when I want to be notified (e.g. when 'all' reviewers reviewed, or when '3/4' reviewed), nor can I set coordinators for particular abstracts.

- I can't set when the user/submitter must be notified.

- I can't set 'project': say that I create the 'call for papers: special issue 5' and another 'call for papers: issue 6', I can't assign person 1 to the first and person 2 to the second to be coordinators.

- Once accepted, I can't see a way of adding the content to the joomla articles unless copying it all.

Summary: looks like a promising component, yet fairly limited currently. Correct?

Cheers,

D

PS: on the extensions it mentioned that one can (highlighted in red are missing features):

* Users submit their abstracts and thesis online and receive an auto-generated Reference number

* Supervisor receives the submission and assign it to one of the Conference's Scientific Committee users
* Scientific Committee user logs in to his account and Rates and Reviews the abstract assigned to him and Send it back to Supervisor
* Super Administrator can create as many users as he want for rating and reviewing the submissions. There will be only one supervisor user who will receive the submissions.
* Once the submission is accepted by the Supervisor, a mail is automatically sent to the participant about his abstract's acceptance.
* Storage of the abstracts according to ordering criteria like topics, formats, titles
* It all comes with an user-friendly Frontend control panel for End users, Supervisor user and Scientific Committee users.
* Super Administrator manages the abstracts and users from the Backend control panel
* Compilation of the results / analysis of the reviewing
* Information of the authors about acceptance or denial of their abstract and its classification
* Create Abstract categories

Please reply, cause I almost submitted a negative review, since the features are not there. I tried to install, submitted using a dummy registered user, checked the back-end and front-end using admin, super-admin. Front-end does not show anything. I'm using v1.01 of the extension bt.

Well, the first thing I must say that you lack patience if you have submitted the negative review already. Or if this is your way to make us come back to you ASAP!!

Moving on, all those features listed in the extension details page are there and if you want to try, you must follow the demo link given on the Joomla Extension Library's listing. Link to the Demo: http://www.joomla6teen.com/psd-joomla/

Answers (in bold) to your comments below:

Supervisor receives the submission and assign it to one of the Conference's Scientific Committee users

Supervisor has a control panel in-built in the component which you can create through creating a link from the menu manager

* Scientific Committee user logs in to his account and Rates and Reviews the abstract assigned to him and Send it back to Supervisor

Same as above. User logs in with his credentials and has access as per the access level he has been given with.

* Super Administrator can create as many users as he want for rating and reviewing the submissions. There will be only one supervisor user who will receive the submissions.

Create and Manage users through the default Joomla User Manager. After you install the component, you will see the default Joomla User Groups have changed to the user groups listed in the component. There will only be one supervisor and rest will be sccietific committee users and abstract users.

* Once the submission is accepted by the Supervisor, a mail is automatically sent to the participant about his abstract's acceptance.
* Storage of the abstracts according to ordering criteria like topics, formats, titles

Sort abstracts as per the ordering criteria

* It all comes with an user-friendly Frontend control panel for End users, Supervisor user and Scientific Committee users.

Frotnend panel is there for abstract users, scientific committee and supervisor users.

* Super Administrator manages the abstracts and users from the Backend control panel

Super admin obviously has all the access!

"Well, the first thing I must say that you lack patience if you have submitted the negative review already. Or if this is your way to make us come back to you ASAP!!"

First: Please read my post carefully where I state:

"cause I almost submitted a negative review"

Meaning: I did NOT post a negative review, but came to the site first and posted my comment. There was not way of doing otherwise, since there is no documentation nor a tutorial on how to build a review process. In other words: how else should I have gone about it.

Second: I really do not appreciate the '!!' in your post.

Third: I don't want this to become ad hominem, so I consider the above quote as closed and move on.

"Create and Manage users through the default Joomla User Manager."

Clarifies alot and must have missed that. I would have thought that such control would be within the extension. I would prefer it to as well. In that way you could create different 'calls' and assign a supervisor 'per call' and not an overall supervisor supervising every single abstract submission.

"Supervisor has a control panel in-built in the component which you can create through creating a link from the menu manager"

Tried it and didn't get it to work. I succesfully submitted a abstract with a registered user. Made one user supervisor, yet going to Cpanel did not do anything. Tried to assign the supervisor to 'scientific committee' and nothing appeared either. I created some scientific committees users, and nothing. Error I got: No Abstract received yet.

There is an abstract though, so I must be missing something.

"Super admin obviously has all the access!"

I can obviously access back-end, yet again in front-end nothing appears, with same error.

Feature Requests:

1. Assign a supervisor per category or per 'call'

2. Allow to add attachments, it's not common to submit abstract through text (abstracts sometimes, usually full papers and thus files)

3. Allow to implement review process (rejected, accepted with major reviews, accepted with minor reviews, accepted)

4. Allow to force automatic email notification or supervisor controlled notification

5. Allow to lock submission for registered user untill after review (cf. 'under review')

All these features stem from mature review management systems such as 'MyReview', Open Journal Systems, E-journal and ConfTool. Not sure whether that is what you're aiming for. If not, let me know so that I don't expect (and request features) or invest time in the extension when that kind of apps is not the goal. If it is, I'm willing to help wherever I can.

As said before, I get the error. Anyway, what about the other features? Are they planned to be implemented?

Thanks for the reply, but could you also answer the questions I previously posted?

3. Allow to implement review process (rejected, accepted with major reviews, accepted with minor reviews, accepted)

I take that you won't reply and the features will not be implemented?

Thanks for the replies so far, I'll continue working with Open Journal Systems and use Jconnekt to sync users.

All the best!
